Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is a wireless technology that allows devices to connect to a network without having to cable them together. Although this technology can be used for an office network, VoIP, gaming, and even digital photo transfer, most often when people think of Wi-Fi, they want to be able to wirelessly connect to the Internet.
To make this happen, you typically would have a wired broadband solution such as DSL at a location. You would then connect a unit that would take the Internet connection and broadcast the wireless signal to enabled devices. This wireless signal basically would have the same range as a wireless home phone - approximately 100 feet indoors to as much as 300 feet with no obstructions or outdoors.
There are options available to relay this signal to additional wireless unit for installations that require a larger area than is covered by a single unit.
Because this signal typically is strong enough to reach neighbors, it is also important to protect your wireless signal using password protection. This way, you are able to prevent unauthorized connectivity to your network. Additionally, it is important to firewall the wireless signal from your main network in order to prevent hackers from accessing potentially sensitive data on your network.
Green Bay Net's staff has been configuring and installing Wi-Fi technology for several years, and we can help with installations from a single unit home installation to a neighborhood wide installation such as the On Broadway free public Wi-Fi project in Downtown Green Bay.
